Jixiao’s Buns: Reviews & Ratings
Loved the fried buns here it was really good. The filling inside was really tasty as well as the soup. My favorite was the spicy wonton soup, the wontons were delicious and extremely flavourful. The noodles were also very good, a really great texture. The broth in both of them was really good. I don’t think I’d recommend this for vegetarians however as my mom ordered the veg noodles and she found pieces of meat in it.
Very small and unassuming hidden gem in the heart of the St Michel area in Paris. The pan-fried buns are a must! And the broth in their soup dishes are really flavourful. Highly recommend
We ordered the sliced duck meat noodles. You can choose the level.of spiciness from 0 to 3 . It is advisable to choose 1 at least even though you have very low tolerance of spiciness because the taste would be nicer and you might find it less flavourful for 0. The noodles were nice especially it's in France. I think it suits the taste for Malaysian. We also ordered the cao shou which is not bad too. They have home-made soy bean drink, the taste was acceptable. I would recommend anyone who is craving for Asian food.

Nestled quietly in the heart of Paris at 21 Quai des Grands Augustins, Jixiao’s Buns offers a genuine taste of Mandarin cuisine that feels both authentic and inviting. This small, unpretentious spot excels in delivering classic dishes with a focus on quality and flavor — particularly their signature pan-fried buns and richly layered noodle soups.
The highlight here has to be the variety of dumplings and buns, especially the Jx Shengian Buns Au Porc. These buns, with their perfectly crispy bottoms and juicy, savory pork filling, create a satisfying contrast that lingers pleasantly on the palate. The care in preparation is evident; each bite bursts with balance and depth. Alongside the buns, their soups stand out — the spicy wonton soup, with its robust broth and flavorful wontons, brings warmth and a touch of heat that complements the delicate noodles well.
Noodle lovers will appreciate the diverse offerings, from the Noodle Soup with Pork Belly to Ground Pork Noodles and Sichuanese Beef variants, each customizable with spice levels that respect diverse palates. The noodles strike a delightful texture, not too soft nor overly firm, which speaks volumes about the kitchen’s mastery. For those craving something heartier, the Soupe de Raviolis Viandes Du Porc Façon Chengdu packs a punch with its rich, aromatic broth and succulent meat filling.
Beyond these savory highlights, Jixiao’s Buns surprises with its homemade soy bean drink, a smooth and refreshing complement to the meal that guests consistently praise. However, a practical tip: it's best to avoid the tap water here, so stick to the in-house specialty drinks for a safer and more pleasant experience.
The atmosphere reflects the food’s straightforward honesty — cozy, inviting, and perfect for a casual lunch, especially near landmarks like Notre Dame. Service is friendly and attentive, with staff eager to help navigate the menu and spice preferences. While vegetarian options exist, some caution is advised, as traces of meat have been reported in dishes labeled vegetarian.
Overall, Jixiao’s Buns captures the essence of Mandarin street food with a Parisian touch — simple, flavorful, and comforting. Whether you’re after steaming bowls of noodle soup or those addictive fried buns, this hidden gem promises a culinary journey worth savoring.
